WHAT IS OVERDRIVE FOR AUTO TRANSAXLE CAR ?

i jut brought a used hyundai matrix 1.6 from car dealer, and also fist time use auto transaxle car,can Anyone tell me the O/D indicator light should be on when i driving ? my friend say tat the O/D light should off when i driving, below is the owners manual introduce When the overdrive switch is turned on, the overdrive off indicator will go out. This amber indicator will be illuminated when the overdrive swith is turned off. (Auto T/A only ).what they mean ?.....pls help ..thx ....

When the light is OFF, Overdrive is ON.

You should drive it with the overdrive ON most of the time. Only turn it off if you are hauling a heavy load or driving up a steep hill.

you will get better gas mileage with overdrive on.

Overdrive on that transmission is when the torque converter locks up. this makes the input shaft to the transmission spin at the same speed as the engine.

Overdrive off= better acceleration

overdrive on= better fuel economy.
