Help…What is HDMI Auto???? Better explained inside.?

I hooked my blu ray player up to hdmi outlet, on my monitor, which is not 1920×1080..but, 1680×1050.

Under Settings and Resolution is says pick between HDMI Auto or 1080p.
This monitor isn’t 1080…but I set it on that anyway and watched part of a movie.
Then went and switched to HDMI Auto and continued watching the movie….to be honest it looks the same?
Can someone explain this to me.

To be quite honest, I have no idea at what resolution it’s showing these movies in?

Generally, when a setting is “auto” it means the device will figure out the right value by itself.

So what’s probably happening is that the same value (1080p) is being used either way, because your monitor is pretty close to 1080p.

As far as why 1080p is working on your monitor even though it’s not a 1080p monitor, I’m guessing that 15 lines at the top and bottom of your screen are being cut off, or the picture is being squished just a little to fit (but not enough to notice).
