Car is in the auto body shop?

So a few weeks ago someone backed into my door left it all messed up, so last week i dropped it off at the shop and they said they had to replace the outer panel. My question is, when it comes time to paint, will they paint the new door the exact color of my car so it matches? Or will it be slightly different? They didn’t really say anything about it being a different shade, so I just want to know what the norm is. My car is a 2002 toyota echo if that helps.

All cars have paint codes permanently attached them. The body shop uses that code to prepare the paint according to the manufacturers specification. In theory, every person who mixes your paint should produce an exact copy of what’s on the car. So,l if it’s a good painter, the shade will be the same as the rest of the car, when it was new. You may see some slight variation due to ultraviolet and weathering effects on the old paint, you might not. But it should be so close that it won’t matter. Otherwise, the guy painting would have warned you ahead of time. He would be able to tell how much fading the old paint had and judge if he could match it even before he bid the job. Fret not.
