Auto Undercoating

I am opening an auto detailing shop. What are the best products to use for stain removal and carpet cleaning?

I have used all different kinds of chemicals mostly the recommendations of the clerk who works at the shop. They all seem to recommend armor all. Isn’t their anything better than this? Any tricks to the trade? What about pricing? I was told I undercharge. Please any help would be appreciated. I also tint, spray in bed liners, undercoat, and install ez down for trucks. Any little information would help me out. Since I am a female I get alot of crap around here for the business. Thanks, Stacey

My fiance owns an import auto repair shop, and I do most of the detailing on his customers’ vehicles. These are my favorite cleaning products:

Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover–Just spray it on and let it dry…no residue or rings! It removes things like grease and shoe polish, so it’s perfect for floor mats.

STP Tuff Stuff–Good for larger carpeted areas, such as trunk interiors, and upholstery (both vinyl and fabric). Best of all, it won’t hurt painted or chrome finishes.

Meguiar’s Hot Shine Tire Spray–Just spray lightly on the sidewalls and tires look like new. (First, clean tires to remove grease, brake dust, and mud–I use a solution of Purple Power and a handled brush.)

Invisible Glass–This glass cleaner comes in a spray can, not a trigger spray bottle, which makes it easier on tired fingers, lol. For best results, use with lint-free cloths. (Instead of paying parts-store prices for lint-free cloths, I look for sales on cloth diapers–they are larger and just as effective.)

Zep Products–These can be found at The Home Depot in the cleaning supplies department. They have a line of detailing products, including car wash, glass cleaner, multipurpose spray, etc, and are quite economical.

Car Waxes–In general, I look for products containing carnauba, as they provide a very hard, shiny gloss.

Miscellaneous Tips:

Always test an inconspicuous area before using any new cleaning product.

Never use a “slippery” cleaner (such as ArmorAll) on things like steering wheels or seats.

Invest in a good, lightweight vacuum with attachments suitable for getting into those smaller areas.

Keep a box of gallon-size Zip-Loc bags for storing things you might find underneath seats, such as loose change, toys, etc. Label the bag with the customer’s name and leave it on the passenger seat…I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been thanked (and generously tipped) for finding and returning such items!
