when you watch a auto race why does the lettering on the cars wheels seem to go in a different direction?

Its due to the speed at which your brain processes the signal, and why it only happens (In F1′s case) when the cars are accelerating or decelerating.

When you see something it takes your brain approx 1/10 of a second to register. So when you see the lettering it appears on a certain position on the wheel, and then it will move one way or the other depending on increase or decrease in speed, because of the delay in registering each of the single frames that the eye is capturing every second (I think its something like 20 fps)
