autoCAD Lt and another 3d program or full version of autoCAD?

I am presently running autoCAD lt 2008 and want to obtain 3D capabilities. I have heard that the 3D capabilities of earlier versions of full blown autoCAD were not that great and many people used other programs. Can anyone give me the status of autoCAD 2007 or 08′s 3D capabilities and also other programs I might consider that would give me 3D capabilities that would work with my 08 Lt and be less expensive than the full version. Autodesk has bought out discrete technologies, who were for-runners in the 3D world. with products like VIZ and Studio MAX. They have since incorporated SOME of these technologies into AutoCAD making it much better. The bulk of the changes came in release 2007. So AutoCAD is a much better solution today than it was just a couple years ago.
some of tier direct competition is with Bentley systems, and with solid works. Autodesk also offers a product called Revit, that i understand is very good. and a program called inventor as well. there are allot of choices, and each has different strong and weak points. your best bet is to meet with a autodesk retailer and discuss your specific needs and budget, then talk to Bentley people and the solidworks people as well. it takes a bit of time investment but it is worth making a educated decision.
