Bringing your own tools to nail salons?

I get a pedicure once a month but I always notice how they don’t clean the equipment thoroughly between each client. I’m always afraid of getting fungus on my toes. Do you think it would be weird if I brought my own tools for them to use? They use the razor thing for the bottoms of my feet but I don’t like the idea of them using theirs. This past time they took it straight from the autoclave but I know other times they haven’t…

I strongly urge you to find another nail salon. Even if you bring your own tools, you are still relying on the salon to provide a clean tub, clean towels, etc. Bacteria can still grow in the water bath/tub if it isn’t properly disinfected between customers. If the salon uses a fixed tub – it may drain the water between clients but not necessarily clean the trap where fungus & bacteria can thrive.

If your current salon isn’t being diligent about keep their tools clean, then other things are probably not being done correctly. Your health is too important to take such a risk.

Finally, never – ever – let some one use a blade type of tool – this is an invasive procudure & can cut into live tissue. It’s dangerous. Only licensed medical professionals are allowed to do procedures that might affect living tissue.

Please find yourself a better, more sanitary salon.
