what do you know about my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT’s CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR???????????????

my check engine light came on today. i went and had my car electronically tested at advance auto parts, and they told me my crankshaft position sensor had “malfunctioned”. but someone at the mitsubishi dealership parts dept. told me that if that sensor was actually bad, my car wouldnt start at all, and its working fine. but maybe he is wrong? is there anything i can do, such as checking a fuse for this or something simple? id like to avoid buying a $124 sensor if i dont actually need a new one.

whoever told you that the sensor has malfunctioned is a total frickin moron. if the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensor have malfunctioned, you definitely wouldn’t be able to start your car. get a second opinion and tell that idiot to find a different job. the only thing you can really do is take it to a reputable shop and have them diagnose it. i will bet you my mechanics license that they find something wrong with something other than either one of those sensors. good luck.
