RE-4 discharge from National Guard, barred from police work?

I was given an uncharacterized discharge from the National Guard with an RE-4 for being outed as being gay. I hadn’t even shipped to basic training.

I’ve been interested in joining the police force, but with an ELS and RE-4 would I be forever auto DQ’ed? Or would any hiring board ever give me a chance to explain my discharge?

It would only DQ you if you were charged and convicted of a crime. Just be honest about the situation.
